Digital gas detectors are designed to detect one of a number of gases, display the concentration of that particular gas and provide an alarm when gas concentration reaches a preset level. These detectors will operate as a stand alone gas detector with its own relay output and LED display.

Series D12 Digital Gas Detection Transmitter from ATI

Series D12 Digital Gas Transmitter from Analytical Technology features loop powered transmission, loop powered with HART, transmitter with integral relay or a transmitter with MOBUS. Gas detection systems come in all shapes and sizes. Some require simple 4-20 mA transmission. Some are better suited to local alarm relay functions. Some relay require both. And increasingly, digital communication directly to the transmitter is desirable. Not to mention the fact that self-testing sensor capability adds to the reliability of any system.

We could not come up with a catchy name that would convey all the capabilities of the D12, so we’ll just explain everything our transmitter can provide – starting with our four different configurations.

Features

  • For measurement and data transmission to remote display and alarm equipment, the D12 will operate in 2-wire mode (except for combustible gas). Integral LCD indicates gas concentration as well as alarm conditions.
  • Loop powered with HART for plants operating with HART protocol communications systems, the D12 can be supplied with this option. Our HART output supports both 4-20 mA and constant current mode of operation.
  • Transmitter with integral relays for systems requiring local alarm functions, or systems where discrete outputs are desired, the D12 can provide 3 relay outputs. Relays are assignable to any alarm set point or fault condition and are fully programmable for set point, hysteresis and time delay.
  • When RS-485 communication is desirable, D12 transmitters with alarm relays can be supplied with a MODBUS interface. Software supports up to 247 unique addresses for large system use.
  • Operating functions such as calibration, alarm setup, alarm reset, data view and setup options are all available using a magnetic tools. It is not necessary to open the enclosure when making adjustments.
  • Measured gas values are stored at user definable intervals and can be recalled when needed on the LCD display. Data can be downloaded using MODBUS interface.
  • Gas concentrations are display in large, easy to read numbers. The display also provides alarm indication and complete menus for setting up operating parameters. a backlight is available when operating in 3 wire mode.
  • Program settings stored in the transmitters may be protected by a user selectable 4-digit password. Operators may still review all functions, but changes may only be made by authorized personnel.
  • The D12 electronic assembly plugs easily into the power supply board in the base of the enclosure. Transmitters can be removed for wiring and quickly replaced in the event of a fault condition.
  • Transmitters are designed for operation in hazardous areas. The case aluminum housing for the D12 transmitter is rated for Class 1, Division 1, Group B, C, D locations and is UL, FM and CSA certified.
  • The output range for a particular sensor is programmable within the range boundaries set in that sensor.
  • Optional relay outputs can be used for local alarm functions. All relays are programmable for set point, hysteresis, on-delay, off-delay and other variables. Even a remote reset feature is provided for in the transmitter design.
  • Transmitter analog output can be set to user definable values. This provides for complete loop testing without the need to apply gas to the sensor.
  • Alarm relays may be activated on command to allow testing of local alarm devices. Any combination of relays may be activated based on operator selection. Output and alarms may also be inhibited for maintenance and calibration.
  • The transmitter is available with either HART or MODBUS protocol. The Hart protocol supports the HART Universal and Common Practice Commands at 1200 baud using the Bell 202 FSK modem standard. The MODBUS protocol supports 9600 baud access to concentration and status information and supports alarm setup and many other functions on either RS-485 or RS-232(software selectable).

Sensor Flexibility

No matter which style of transmitter you choose, your D12 transmitter includes features that enhance performance and provide operational flexibility, starting with out own advanced electrochemical sensors.

  • Every toxic gas transmitter will accept up to 46 different sensors, greatly reducing the need for multiple transmitter models. The self aligning sensor holder simply plugs in, with automatic sensor recognition and verification when contact is made.
  • Plug-in sensors store calibration data, allowing sensors to be calibrated separately from the transmitter. This allows bench calibration (or factory calibration) of sensors to reduce the necessity for carrying calibration gas around the plant. Sensors are even interchangeable with ATI’s C16 PortaSens II portable gas detector.
  • Each time a sensor is zeroed or calibrated, the data is stored in sensor memory. Calibration history can be recalled and sensor condition reviewed by operating personnel whenever necessary.

Sensor Response Verification

For many toxic and combustible gases, ATI offers a unique sensor response testing system unmatched by any competitive transmitter. Even outdoors in high wind conditions, the Auto-Test system provides reliable response checks to insure system integrity.

  • Sensor response is verified with an actual gas sample, generated on demand. Electronic sensor and circuit tests just cannot provide the same level of confidence.
  •  Auto-Test gas generators are easily installed and removed when necessary. Generators store run time information accessible to operators and are automatically tested for compatibility with the installed sensor.
  • Systems using the Auto-Test generators store a testing log indicating the number of tests performed as well as test results. This data is stored in individual sensor memory for later review.

Series F12 Digital Gas Detection Transmitter from ATI

The Series F12 Gas Transmitter is an Intrinsically Safe (IS) version of ATI’s explosion proof D12 transmitter. In its standard form, it is designed for detection of a variety of toxic gases in hazardous area applications requiring IS devices. In addition, it is also well suited for all general purpose applications where toxic gas measurement is required. For IS installations, this transmitter is also available with a Hart communication option.

F12 Transmitter use ATI’s standard smart sensors for maximum flexibility. Sensors are easily exchanged and contain all calibration constants in sensor memory, eliminating the need for field calibration of transmitters. Sensors may be calibrated on the bench and then simply plugged into the transmitter. Calibration data is read into the transmitter automatically and no other adjustments are normally required. For general purpose gas detection applications, the F12 transmitter is also available in Non-IS versions. One version provides for easy interface to RS-485 networks using a standard MODBUS communication protocol. A second version provides a complete AC powered instrument with 3 alarm relays (SPST) available for external alarming.

  •  A non-IS version of the transmitter provides 3 integral alarm relays. Relays and programmable for setpoint, hysteresis, on-delay and other variables. Systems with alarms are available for operation from 12-30 VDC supplies or from 115 or 230 VAC power.
  • The IS version of the transmitter is available with Hart communications. The Hart protocol supports the Hart Universal and Common Practice Commands at 1200 baud using the Bell 202 FSK modem standard. The non-IS versions of the transmitter are available with MODBUS communications. The MODBUS protocol supports 9600 baud access to concentration and status information and supports alarm setup and many other functions.
  • Gas concentrations are displayed in large, easy to read numbers. The display also provides alarm indication and complete menus for setting up operating parameters.
  •  Measured gas values are stored at user designable intervals and can be recalled when needed on the LCD display. Data can be downloaded using a Hart or MODBUS interface.
  • Each time a sensor is zeroed or calibrated, the data is stored in memory. Calibration history can be recalled and sensor condition reviewed by operating personnel whenever necessary.
  • Operating functions such as calibration, alarm setup, alarm reset, data view and setup options are all available using sealed front panel switches on the face of the Nema 4X transmitter enclosure.
  • For use in applications where condensation is a problem, this heater option keeps the sensor above the whew point to eliminate loss of sensitivity due to moisture blockage on the sensor face.
  • Transmitter analog output can be set to user definable values and relay outputs can be set to specific states for complete simulation of detection system operation. Output and alarms may also be inhibited for maintenance and calibration.

Dri-Gas Gas Sampling System

Monitoring combustible or toxic gases in areas with condensing levels of moisture often results in premature sensor failure. Water condensing on sensor surfaces or within the sensor flame arrestor can be difficult to avoid due to widely variable ambient conditions. ATI has developed a solution to this problem with a gas sampling system that also conditions the sample by removing water vapor. The Dri-Gas sampling system draws gas samples from high humidity vent stacks, ducts, wet wells or other humid locations. The system removes water vapor from the gas sample by contact with a cold plate that condenses moisture and delivers a dehumidified gas sample suitable for toxic and combustible gas monitoring equipment. Excess condensate is pumped to a drain fitting on the bottom of the enclosure and can be collected if necessary.

Dri-Gas systems contain a diaphragm sampling pump with brushless DC motor providing operational life in excess of 10,000 hours. The pump is capable of pulling inlet line vacuum of up to 10″ Hg. making it suitable for sampling duct systems with negative pressures. The outlet of the pump is controlled by an adjustable rotameter allowing system sample flow to be set to the normal ate of 500 cc/min. A differential pressure switch across the pump provides an alarm should the inlet line or outlet lines become blocked. An alarm lamp on the door provides local alarm indication and a SPDT alarm contact is available for remote alarm indication.

An optional inlet filter assembly is available for applications where gas streams may contain dust or debris that might cause problems in the air pump. A replaceable filter element on the end of the inlet assembly can be easily changed when necessary.

A plugged inlet filter will be indicated by a fault indication. A package of filter elements are supplied with the inlet assembly.

Installation

The gas sampling system is suitable for either indoor or outdoor installation, but outdoor installations must be protected from wind driven rain. It is also best to protect it from direct sunlight to minimize solar heating or the interior. Outlet tubing containing the dried air sample should be connected directly to the gas sensor flowcells and distances should be kept as short as possible. Teflon lined PVC sample inlet and outlet tubing is recommended to minimize loss of reactive gases.

The diagram below shows a typical installation with the output to an F12 transmitter. This is an example only. The dried gas sample can be fed to a variety of gas sensors including ATI’s D12, D12IT, B12, F12 or other manufacturers.

E12-15IR High Level Ammonia Gas Detector from ATI
The E12-15IR High Level Ammonia Gas Detector is a rugged reliable microprocessor based intelligent gas detector. The E12-15 can be used to monitor from ppm levels to explosive levels of ammonia gas. The E12-15 is ideally suited for use in harsh environments where electrochemical sensor life can be short. Areas such as engine rooms, emergency vents, or other high level NH3 areas are excellent applications. The E12-15 IR Infrared Gas Detector will perform reliably in the presence of silicone and other catalytic poisoning agents and can also operate in oxygen free environments or where high background gas levels are present. There are no known poisons that affect this technology. The E12-15 IR is a stand-alone device providing a linear continuous 4 to 20 mA output representing 0 to full scale. The Model E12-15 IR uses infrared absorption technology for detecting ammonia gas. Gases absorb infrared light only at certain wavelengths. The concentration of a gas can be quantified by measuring and comparing intensities in light bands where there is significant absorption by the target gas. The Model E12-15 IR uses an infrared light source that passes collimated light through a waveguide containing the gas sample. At the other end of the waveguide is a multi channel receiver. The measuring channel intensities and the reference channel intensities are then analyzed to quantify the gas concentration. The gas concentration is then represented at the output as a gas density measurement of % Vol measurement or ppm.

RaeGuard 2 PID Fixed Detector for VOCs
The RaeGuard 2 PID is a fixed photoionization detector (PID) that measures a broad range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The RaeGuard 2 PID from Honeywell by Rae Systems operates on 10 to 28 VDC and provides an analog (4-20mA) three-wire single output, and RS-485 Modbus digital signal output. Calibration and maintenance have been greatly simplified as the digital PID module can be easily removed in hazardous locations for calibrations and maintenance. The RaeGuard 2 PID has a graphic display and LED light status indicator for fault and alarm conditions. SEC 3000 Gas Detection Sensor from Sensor Electronics

The SEC 3000 gas detector is a unique design combining intrinsically safe and explosion proof approved standards. This allows for quick and simple field installation of a calibrated sensor module into the gas detector in hazardous locations with power applied. The SEC 3000 sensor module retains operating parameters and calibration settings. Once the sensor module is plugged into the gas detector, the sensor module automatically uploads current information to the control board in the SEC 3000. Changing to a different type of gas sensor is accomplished by only changing the sensor module board. The existing housing and wiring remains intact.

An industry standard 4-20 mA analog output provides remote alarm, fault and calibration signals. The entire unit utilizes self-diagnostics, identifies problems and simultaneously transmits status.

The SEC 3000 can be used in conjunction with the SEC 3100 explosion proof transmitter. The SEC 3100 has a backlit LCD display, non intrusive local calibration, 4-20 mA output, optional relays, RS485 interface and intrinsic barrier.

SEC 3500 HMI Operator Interface from Sensor Electronics

The SEC 3500 HMI is an operator interface dedicated to communicating to the SEC 3100 gas detector, SEC relay controllers, SEC 3100 AIM and SEC 3100 LIM units. The SEC 3500 has output capabilities to the plant control system. It uses an industry standard RS485 communication protocol to interrogate up to 254 Network Devices.

Series D12 Digital Gas Detection Transmitter from ATI
Series D12 Digital Gas Transmitter from Analytical Technology features loop powered transmission, loop powered with HART, transmitter with integral relay or a transmitter with MOBUS. Gas detection systems come in all shapes and sizes. Some require simple 4-20 mA transmission. Some are better suited to local alarm relay functions. Some relay require both. And increasingly, digital communication directly to the transmitter is desirable. Not to mention the fact that self-testing sensor capability adds to the reliability of any system. We could not come up with a catchy name that would convey all the capabilities of the D12, so we’ll just explain everything our transmitter can provide – starting with our four different configurations. Features For measurement and data transmission to remote display and alarm equipment, the D12 will operate in 2-wire mode (except for combustible gas). Integral LCD indicates gas concentration as well as alarm conditions. Loop powered with HART for plants operating with HART protocol communications systems, the D12 can be supplied with this option. Our HART output supports both 4-20 mA and constant current mode of operation. Transmitter with integral relays for systems requiring local alarm functions, or systems where discrete outputs are desired, the D12 can provide 3 relay outputs. Relays are assignable to any alarm set point or fault condition and are fully programmable for set point, hysteresis and time delay. When RS-485 communication is desirable, D12 transmitters with alarm relays can be supplied with a MODBUS interface. Software supports up to 247 unique addresses for large system use. Operating functions such as calibration, alarm setup, alarm reset, data view and setup options are all available using a magnetic tools. It is not necessary to open the enclosure when making adjustments. Measured gas values are stored at user definable intervals and can be recalled when needed on the LCD display. Data can be downloaded using MODBUS interface. Gas concentrations are display in large, easy to read numbers. The display also provides alarm indication and complete menus for setting up operating parameters. a backlight is available when operating in 3 wire mode. Program settings stored in the transmitters may be protected by a user selectable 4-digit password. Operators may still review all functions, but changes may only be made by authorized personnel. The D12 electronic assembly plugs easily into the power supply board in the base of the enclosure. Transmitters can be removed for wiring and quickly replaced in the event of a fault condition. Transmitters are designed for operation in hazardous areas. The case aluminum housing for the D12 transmitter is rated for Class 1, Division 1, Group B, C, D locations and is UL, FM and CSA certified. The output range for a particular sensor is programmable within the range boundaries set in that sensor. Optional relay outputs can be used for local alarm functions. All relays are programmable for set point, hysteresis, on-delay, off-delay and other variables. Even a remote reset feature is provided for in the transmitter design. Transmitter analog output can be set to user definable values. This provides for complete loop testing without the need to apply gas to the sensor. Alarm relays may be activated on command to allow testing of local alarm devices. Any combination of relays may be activated based on operator selection. Output and alarms may also be inhibited for maintenance and calibration. The transmitter is available with either HART or MODBUS protocol. The Hart protocol supports the HART Universal and Common Practice Commands at 1200 baud using the Bell 202 FSK modem standard. The MODBUS protocol supports 9600 baud access to concentration and status information and supports alarm setup and many other functions on either RS-485 or RS-232(software selectable). Sensor Flexibility No matter which style of transmitter you choose, your D12 transmitter includes features that enhance performance and provide operational flexibility, starting with out own advanced electrochemical sensors. Every toxic gas transmitter will accept up to 46 different sensors, greatly reducing the need for multiple transmitter models. The self aligning sensor holder simply plugs in, with automatic sensor recognition and verification when contact is made. Plug-in sensors store calibration data, allowing sensors to be calibrated separately from the transmitter. This allows bench calibration (or factory calibration) of sensors to reduce the necessity for carrying calibration gas around the plant. Sensors are even interchangeable with ATI’s C16 PortaSens II portable gas detector. Each time a sensor is zeroed or calibrated, the data is stored in sensor memory. Calibration history can be recalled and sensor condition reviewed by operating personnel whenever necessary. Sensor Response Verification For many toxic and combustible gases, ATI offers a unique sensor response testing system unmatched by any competitive transmitter. Even outdoors in high wind conditions, the Auto-Test system provides reliable response checks to insure system integrity. Sensor response is verified with an actual gas sample, generated on demand. Electronic sensor and circuit tests just cannot provide the same level of confidence.  Auto-Test gas generators are easily installed and removed when necessary. Generators store run time information accessible to operators and are automatically tested for compatibility with the installed sensor. Systems using the Auto-Test generators store a testing log indicating the number of tests performed as well as test results. This data is stored in individual sensor memory for later review. Series F12 Digital Gas Detection Transmitter from ATI
The Series F12 Gas Transmitter is an Intrinsically Safe (IS) version of ATI’s explosion proof D12 transmitter. In its standard form, it is designed for detection of a variety of toxic gases in hazardous area applications requiring IS devices. In addition, it is also well suited for all general purpose applications where toxic gas measurement is required. For IS installations, this transmitter is also available with a Hart communication option. F12 Transmitter use ATI’s standard smart sensors for maximum flexibility. Sensors are easily exchanged and contain all calibration constants in sensor memory, eliminating the need for field calibration of transmitters. Sensors may be calibrated on the bench and then simply plugged into the transmitter. Calibration data is read into the transmitter automatically and no other adjustments are normally required. For general purpose gas detection applications, the F12 transmitter is also available in Non-IS versions. One version provides for easy interface to RS-485 networks using a standard MODBUS communication protocol. A second version provides a complete AC powered instrument with 3 alarm relays (SPST) available for external alarming. Features Transmitter are designed for use in application requiring intrinsically safe devices for safety purposes. Dri-Gas Gas Sampling System
Monitoring combustible or toxic gases in areas with condensing levels of moisture often results in premature sensor failure. Water condensing on sensor surfaces or within the sensor flame arrestor can be difficult to avoid due to widely variable ambient conditions. ATI has developed a solution to this problem with a gas sampling system that also conditions the sample by removing water vapor. The Dri-Gas sampling system draws gas samples from high humidity vent stacks, ducts, wet wells or other humid locations. The system removes water vapor from the gas sample by contact with a cold plate that condenses moisture and delivers a dehumidified gas sample suitable for toxic and combustible gas monitoring equipment. Excess condensate is pumped to a drain fitting on the bottom of the enclosure and can be collected if necessary. Dri-Gas systems contain a diaphragm sampling pump with brushless DC motor providing operational life in excess of 10,000 hours. The pump is capable of pulling inlet line vacuum of up to 10″ Hg. making it suitable for sampling duct systems with negative pressures. The outlet of the pump is controlled by an adjustable rotameter allowing system sample flow to be set to the normal ate of 500 cc/min. A differential pressure switch across the pump provides an alarm should the inlet line or outlet lines become blocked. An alarm lamp on the door provides local alarm indication and a SPDT alarm contact is available for remote alarm indication. An optional inlet filter assembly is available for applications where gas streams may contain dust or debris that might cause problems in the air pump. A replaceable filter element on the end of the inlet assembly can be easily changed when necessary. A plugged inlet filter will be indicated by a fault indication. A package of filter elements are supplied with the inlet assembly. It is also best to protect it from direct sunlight to minimize solar heating or the interior. Outlet tubing containing the dried air sample should be connected directly to the gas sensor flowcells and distances should be kept as short as possible. Teflon lined PVC sample inlet and outlet tubing is recommended to minimize loss of reactive gases. The diagram below shows a typical installation with the output to an F12 transmitter. This is an example only. The dried gas sample can be fed to a variety of gas sensors including ATI’s D12, D12IT, B12, F12 or other manufacturers. E12-15IR High Level Ammonia Gas Detector from ATI
The E12-15IR High Level Ammonia Gas Detector is a rugged reliable microprocessor based intelligent gas detector. The E12-15 can be used to monitor from ppm levels to explosive levels of ammonia gas. The E12-15 is ideally suited for use in harsh environments where electrochemical sensor life can be short. Areas such as engine rooms, emergency vents, or other high level NH3 areas are excellent applications. The E12-15 IR Infrared Gas Detector will perform reliably in the presence of silicone and other catalytic poisoning agents and can also operate in oxygen free environments or where high background gas levels are present. There are no known poisons that affect this technology. The E12-15 IR is a stand-alone device providing a linear continuous 4 to 20 mA output representing 0 to full scale. The Model E12-15 IR uses infrared absorption technology for detecting ammonia gas. Gases absorb infrared light only at certain wavelengths. The concentration of a gas can be quantified by measuring and comparing intensities in light bands where there is significant absorption by the target gas. The Model E12-15 IR uses an infrared light source that passes collimated light through a waveguide containing the gas sample. At the other end of the waveguide is a multi channel receiver. The measuring channel intensities and the reference channel intensities are then analyzed to quantify the gas concentration. The gas concentration is then represented at the output as a gas density measurement of % Vol measurement or ppm.
