ER2000 Escape Respirator from Honeywell CBRN Approved

Honeywell’s ER2000 Escape Respirator is a hood style full face respirator that provides respiratory protection from Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) warfare agents as well as Toxic Industrial Materials (TIM’s). It’s easy and intuitive to use, comfortable and can be donned and functional within seconds.

Features

  • NIOSH/CBRN approval CAP 2 – 30 minute minimum rating. Meets specifications for bids using State and Federal grants. Meets the highest levels of protection and performance requirements.
  • Universal size – Comfortably fits most adults. Reduced inventory. Eliminates concern people have the right size during an emergency.
  • Dual cartridge design – Balanced. Cartridges are located out of direct vision. Increased comfort and fit. Vision is not obstructed.
  • Headstrap harness located on outside of hood – Quick and easy to adjust. Provides a secure fit each and every time. Saves precious seconds during donning.
  • Translucent polyurethane hood – Complete visibility. Anti-claustrophobic. Emergency responders can easily see wearer for quick identification.
  • Reflective stripe on head strap – Illuminates by flashlight or other lightsource. Guides rescue workers to location of victims.
  • Flexible contoured neck dam – Stretches to fit over head. Seals without constriction. Pulls over head quickly. Provides a secure fit.
  • Oral/nasal cup – Reduces fogging. Less “dead air space”. Increased visibility. Minimizes inhaled CO2, less tiring.
  • Inner sealed bag is pre-notched and scored – Protects hood during storage. Opens in one easy motion. Know your escape respirator is ready to use in an emergency. Opens quickly and easily every time.
  • NIOSH approved “ready to use” with carry bag – Belt loops to wear vertically or horizontally. Convenient and always available.
  • Training Conversion Kit – Converts ER2000 to a training unit. Train people on actual respirator.

Technical Data

The technical data was formatted from the National Institute of Justice “Guide for the Selection of Personal Protective Equipment for Emergency Responders.” The National Institute of Justice is the focal point for providing support to state and local law enforcement agencies in the development of counter terrorism and standards, including technology needs for chemical and biological defense.

General Specifications

Technology Defender Plus gas, vapor and particulate cartridges are attached to the half mask and hood, which remove contaminates in the ambient air to provide full face respiratory protection.
Protection Type Designed to provide respiratory, eye and face protection for a single escape from solid, liquid and gaseous chemicals. It is not designed for escape from fire or radiation. Does not provide impact protection.
Certification At this time, there was no NIOSH certification available for emergency escape respirators for protection against non-industrial chemical or biological agents.
Chemical Warfare Agents Hood material permeation and cartridge service life testing with Sarin (GB) and Mustard (MD)
Biological Warfare Agents A HEPA particulate filter will protect against all known biological agents
Toxic Industrial Materials See below
Duration of Protection Minimum of 30 minutes at high concentrations.
Sizes Available One size fits the majority of the adult population. Tested and met performance requirements for neck sizes from 12″ to 22″ in circumference.
Weight 18 ounces
Material Type Polyurethane hood, polycarbonate lens and butyl neck dam are all highly chemical resistant. Elastomer half mask is non-allergenic.
Construction Type Hermetically sealed seams
Training Requirements Three language instruction sheet included. Pictorial training instruction on package. Moisture and light resistant resealable package allows user to practice with the respirator prior to emergency use.
Testing Information See below
Communications The user can speak normally through the front mounted exhalation valve
Ease of Use Easily donned and functioning within seconds. No assistance is required. Allows full mobility, flexibility and a wide range of vision. Compatible with glasses, facial and long hair.
Consumable None, the full face respirator is a single use disposable product. Cannot be reused
Maintenance No service of maintenance required. No replacement parts
Expiration Date/Storage Expiration is five years from date of manufacture. The date of manufacture is on the shipping container and foil package. Store respirator in clean dry area in its original sealed foil package. Do not store below -20°F of above 160°F or where relative humidity is above 90%

Other Cartridge Service Life Testing

Meets NIOSH cartridge service life conditions for organic vapor, chlorine, chlorine dioxide and hydrogen fluoride. Additional testing such as high and low temperature, humidity, vibration, rough handling and leak testing ensure that the escape respirator will provide adequate protection after being subjected to normal transportation, storage and handling by the user.
