AFC International's Universal Bump Test Station for Gas Detectors

The AFC International Bump Test Station is an easy to use device for the verification of sensor response of your multi gas or personal gas detectors. This simple bump test can be performed in less than 60 seconds and will give you the piece of mind that your instrument is responding to gas properly, prior to entering a confined space or dangerous gas area in a plant.

The wall mounted Bump Test Station can be modified to work with any make or model instrument on the market. A simple push of the start button activates the flow of test gas. A green light turns on, indicating the system is working. The flow meter on the front of the unit verifies that gas is flowing. In about 30 seconds all alarms on the instrument should be activated. If they are not, the instrument should not be used and then sent in for service. The station automatically shuts off after the selected time period and the green light goes out. AFC International uses quality gas standards that are certified accurate. The Bump Test Station can use any concentration of gas and cylinder sizes. We recommend that you use a gas concentration high enough to insure that all gas sensor alarms will be activated within a 30 to 60 second time period.

The Bump Test Station is a perfect compliment to any company’s calibration or maintenance schedule and can be customized to fit your gas detection program.The AFC International Bump Test Station is not intended to and/or should not be used to replace periodic instrument manufacturer’s recommended gas calibration interval! It is simply a test that can fill in the gaps between calibrations.

The ISEA passed a new statement in November 2009. This was after 2 1/2 years of debate. The definition of a bump test has now been expanded into two methods. There is now a qualitative (bump) and a quantitative (calibration check) for all gas monitors. The new statement is available here.

How to Use

  • Strip outer layer of shrink wrap at the perforation to reveal the tube for the cylinder of gas
  • Remove the black cap and place on the bottom of the tube. Either remove your cylinder of gas or use it while in the tube
  • Attach regulator to cylinder and use cylinder until empty
  • When gauge reads zero, remove regulator and pull cylinder out of tube
  • Next, simply strip perforated section on the cylinder’s shrink wrap to reveal pre-paid return label
  • Place empty cylinder back into the tube and place the black cap back on. The shipper will scan the bar code on the pre-paid shipping label.
  • No paperwork to fill out!

Breathing Air Sample Kits for Grade D Air Testing

In 2008, NFPA 1989 mandated an outside air analysis at least quarterly. With associated rules governing routine service, you may actually be required to test six times each year or more. You collect the air sample into the sterile container that we provide for you. (non-hazardous) The air is tested at a laboratory certified by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation as required by NFPA. You will receive a certificate stating that you air meets the standards you requested. If your air does not pass, you are contacted personally to discuss the problem and another test can be sent out at once to you.

PortaSens III Gas Leak Detector from Analytical Technology
The ATI PortaSens II has been updated to the PortaSens III portable gas leak detector. The new PortaSens III is a rugged hand held device used to detect leaks of toxic or otherwise dangerous gas and also to detect oxygen displacement. The D16 quickly adapts to measure different gases by inserting the appropriate gas sensor module which retains all of the calibration and configuration settings for the target gas. An internal pump with a flexible wand is included for point sampling around suspect pipe fittings and confined spaces. Readings and settings are presented on a backlighted, resistive touch, color graphics LCD with a beeper to notify you of alarms and other events. Readings are recorded in .csv files (ASCII text, comma-separated values) and transferred to a PC using the supplied USB cable. No external application is required. The files may be opened with any text editor or directly by applications like Microsoft Excel. Power is provided from a rechargeable NiMH D-cell battery. The battery should be removed and charged in an external charger after each use. The battery is not used or even required when the device is connected to a USB port. The inlet port, located on the manifold lid, is fitted with a quick disconnect fitting to connect the flexible want. The wand can be used for probing closely around pipes and fittings and for sampled confined spaces without entering. The wand is lined with Teflon and is inert to nearly all vapors and gases. Flexible tubing may be connected to the inlet port to sample high gas concentration or those beyond the reach of the wand. Fluorocarbon based tubing is strongly recommended for measuring low concentrations of reactive gases. Other materials may be used for high range measurements where the adsorption of gas by the tubing is negligible or where you are probing or significant leaks. The internal walls of the wand and any inlet tubing must be kept dry. Water on the walls may absorb soluble gases and decrease the gas readings, presenting an unsafe condition. If the inside of the wand or tubing gets wet, dry dry air through it for 10-15 minutes.

The PortaSens III is supplied in a padded carrying case for easy storage and transport. Space is provided for an extra battery plus up to two sensor keepers, which means up to 8 extra sensors ready for immediate use. Each PortaSens III includes the detector, spare filters, 10″ Teflon lined sampling wand, flowmeter, USB cable, spare NIMH “D” cell battery, sensor keeper and calibration”T” fitting. The Honeywell BW Ultra is a portable 5 gas detector designed specifically for sampling and monitoring confined spaces, before and after entry. Honeywell BW Ultra offers unmatched sensor technology, visibility on gas readings, comfort and connectivity. This makes it the most reliable and user friendly way to prevent a safety incident. When you are sampling gases in a confined space, you need to constantly watch the reading on your gas detector and the Honeywell BW Ultra makes them easy to see. The detector has a 3.2″ screen and very high resolution, so you can quickly determine the level of each gas. It stands up to harsh condition. With a very high rating of IP66/68 the Honeywell BW Ultra is protected not only from dust but also from water ingress (high pressure spray or submersion up to 3.9′). So if you drop the Ultra in a vat or take it into a dust prone environmental, you can fell completely confident that is will continue to operate. Unlike gas detectors that you wear, the Ultra is a detector that you hold as you sample the air in a confined space. That is why we designed the Ultra to fit the shape of your hand with a comfortable weight and a slimmer profile than other 5 gas detectors to prevent fatigue and increase productivity. Plus it has 1 button operation. The Honeywell BW Ultra simultaneously detects the 4 gases you are required to monitor in confined spaces: oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide and combustibles at the LEL. plus there is a 5th sensor for the gas of your choice, ranging from sulfur dioxide to chlorine to volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Honeywell BW Ultra is compatible with the Honeywell Safety Communicator mobile app, which means that vital gas readings on the detector are no longer limited to the confined space attendant who is using it. The detector’s gas readings and location can be instantly sent via Bluetooth to Honewell’s real time monitoring software, viewable from a control room or other remote locations. The Ultra features “Hole Watch Mode” which shows the concentration of each gas plus a graph next to every reading that shows how close the gas is to the point of alarm. You can see how fast each gas level is climbing, so you can correct small problems before they cause worker injury, evacuation or complete shutdown. The Ultra uses the new 1-Sensor technology with small size. These sensors deliver consistently accurate readings, standing up to temperatures from -40 to 60°C. The 1-Series sensors last up to 5 years, depending on their gas exposure. With that long sensor life, backed by a 3 year warranty on the Ultra you can have confidence in your detector performance while reducing your cost of ownership. Honeywell’s TouchConnect Technology brings Bluetooth technology to gas detection users. Simply activate your Bluetooth TouchConnect device and it will allow you to change a number of ultra devices that are within range. Simultaneously monitor and display up to five atmospheric hazards with the BW Technologies GasAlertMicro 5 Gas Detector. Adaptable to a variety of applications, the GasAlertMicro 5 Series has an extensive selection of user settable field options and is available as either a standard toxic gas model, a PID model for the detection of VOCs or an IR model for carbon dioxide detection. Use the passcode function to prevent unauthorized modifications of the instrument’s settings. The IntelliDox Calibration Station combines smart docking modules and device management software to provide automated instrument management for compatible detectors, helping you drive productivity, reliability and efficiency. IntelliDoX is easy to install, taking under 2 minutes from setup of a five module dock to the bump of your first instrument. The BW Clip Real Time (RT) single gas detector by Honeywell is part of Honeywell Clip maintenance free family of single gas detectors. It provides the same great functionality as the BW Clip, plus the addition of a real time gas level display and the ability to calibrate the device; providing more solutions to meet your gas detection needs. Gases detected includes Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) , Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), Oxygen (O2) Clip Real Time provides real time readings of atmosphere gas concentration levels. It can be calibrated and is compatible with the MicroDock II and IntelliDoX instrument management system. The Honeywell BW Solo Single Gas Detector has everything you expect plus additional features to make your compliance easier and more cost-effective than ever. All with a reliable life span, one button operation and a small, lightweight profile. No need to take apart the Solo to replace components. To change out the sensor filters, just pop off a door on the front of the detector, no screwdriver required. Sensor and battery replacement are also easy. The 1st Steps Chemical Classification Kit is a rapid and intuitive screening systems for response to chemical emergencies. The operation of the TS400 bump test station couldn’t be any easier. Simply put the G450 or G460 in the dock and the system will take over. The TS400 automatically performs a full functional test including a fresh air calibration, bump test, extensive sensor tests, alarm tests. The TS400 is designed to go beyond the traditional basic bump test and includes sensor diagnostics tests such as T50 and T90. After all, what good is a sensor that can respond to gas when it takes too long to get there? With the TS400 you can have confidence with this added level of safety. The TS400 is available for use as a charger as well as a test station. After all tests have been completed you may remove and begin using the detector or leave it in the TS400 for recharging. A good instrument gas detection maintenance program is not complete without equally good records keeping. Whether you choose to download or maintain the records on a PC or network or your preference is to leave it to the docking station, the TS400 is the right choice. The TS400 can retain as many as 2 million complete diagnostics in memory with maximum memory installed. That is over 50 years of data even if testing 100 detectors every single day. The TS400 is designed to reduce the cost of ownership every step of the way. The push button regulator helps to sharply reduce the amount of gas required to test your instruments. The TS400 comes complete with USB interface cable and download software. The SD card may also be downloaded using a standard SD card reader. The TS400 software includes a module to quickly print official bump test certificates. Simply download the records from the TS400 and start the Certificate Generator. The TS400 is available for use with the instrument only or there is an available design for use with the instrument with a pump. There is no need to remove the pump before placing the detector in the test station.

G460 Multi-Gas Detector With PID from GfG

The GfG G460 combustible gas detector is the world’s most advanced multi-sensor atmospheric monitor. The durable G460 continuously measures and displays readings for up to six gases at the same time.  G460 combustible gas detectors are available for use with a wide range of long lasting interchangeable, smart sensors for LEL, O2, H2S, CO, NH3, SO2, CL2, PH3, NO2, HCN, ETO, ClO2, HF, O3, NO and H2 as well as an infrared (NDIR) sensor for the direct measurement of carbon dioxide and a photoionization detector (PID) for the measurement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The G460 combustible gas detector is compact, robust and very easy to use portable gas detector. The dust proof and highly water resistant (IP-67) housing is designed to survive the toughest environmental conditions. The housing even includes a built in rubberized boot to withstand the hard knocks of confined space entry.

The G460 keeps gas detectors simple. Most day to day functions are controlled with a single button and calibration is fully automatic. Simply attach the adapter and flow gas to the sensors. GfG Autocal programming automatically makes the adjustments and updates the information in the instrument’s on board memory.

The G460 carries a lifetime warranty on non consumable components and a 2 year warranty on consumable components. O2, LEL, H2S, CO and COSH sensors carry a full 3 year warranty against failure.

Depending on the sensors installed, the G460 battery packs deliver up to 25 hours of continuous operation. Alkaline packs are powered by two “AA” batteries. Rechargeable battery packs can be completely recharged in less than four hours in the drop in cradle charger. Rechargeable battery packs can even be equipped with optional “flash lights” LEDs.

Whether it’s worn on your belt or held by hand, the G460 is easy to read. The top mounted, full graphics LCD includes a built in backlight for use in the dark. Readings can be zoomed or flipped at the push of a button to make it even easier to see your monitoring results.

The G460 includes an extremely loud audible alarm (103 dB at 12″), built in vibrator and bright wrap around LED alarm lights visible from every direction. The top mounted display changes color from green to orange to red just like a traffic signal to help communicate the severity of the hazardous condition.

The field attachable motorized pump is powered by its own alkaline or rechargeable battery pack. The powerful diaphragm pump is equipped with an on/off shutter that allows the instrument to be used in diffusion mode even while the pump is attached.

All G460 instruments are equipped with datalogging. The datalogger records gas concentrations and alarms on moment to moment basis. Monitoring results can be downloaded to a PC for viewing, storage and evaluation.

Each G460 VOC monitoring device comes complete with sensors and battery pack (as specified), cal adapter, manual and training DVD. Rechargeable instruments additionally include a drop in cradle charger and wall power adapter. The G460 DS400 Docking Station offers complete automatic functional testing, calibration, instrument charging and record keeping.

MicroCO Breath CO Monitor
With the MicroCO Breath CO Monitor, firefighters and emergency providers can diagnose carbon monoxide poisoning easily, quickly and inexpensively right on the scene thus preventing possible long term cardiac and/or neurological damage. Studies have determined that breath carbon monoxide detectors such as the MicroCO can provides fast, inexpensive, and noninvasive estimates of the approximate concentration of blood COHb, facilitating diagnosis and treatment of CO poisoning. The MicroCO is the gold standard in CO breath testing and is the most advanced system currently available today. Some of its many features include fast response time, 1 ppm resolution, immediate display of CO levels in ppm and percent carboxyhemoglobin (%COHb) and color light indicators for a visual presentation of the results. Measurements are easily obtained from a single exhalation and are aided by an auto-zero function at turn on, combined with a breath hold countdown timer. These results are then instantly display on the large, easy to read LCD and are visually represented by the appropriate color light indicator. Operating from a single 9 volt battery, the MicroCO combines accuracy and simplicity making it the preferred choice for all types of health professionals. Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are a threat from international terrorist organizations and local, home-grown terrorists as well. Sadly, Home Made Explosives (HMEs) and IEDs have become a fact of modern life. Military, law enforcement and intelligence personnel have a dual-role: uncovering the bomb networks and systems before the bombers do harm, and investigating an incident after it occurs. Gastec Gas Sampling Pump for Gastec Detector Tubes

Packed with features, the standard Gastec Gas Sampling Pump is the only pump you need for measuring gas and vapor concentrations quickly and accurately. Small, lightweight, and rugged, this pump is perfectly calibrated, displays ambient temperature, and includes a lifetime warranty. It is simple, always ready, and intrinsically safe. The Gastec Detector Tube and Pump System has been designed specifically with the end user in mind to allow for ease of use without compromising safety.

Weighing only 8 ounces, the intrinsically safe pump can easily be transported to any test site. The pump body is contoured and covered with a soft elastomer for a comfortable, secure grip. The exterior of the pump is composed of a durable and non-corrosive plastic and synthetic rubber compound, effectively eliminating any risk of sparks should the pump system be accidentally be dropped into an explosive environment. The pump incorporates a built-in detector tube tip breaker with a durable diamond cutting edge. Discarded tips are deposited in a storage bin for easy disposal.

The fail-safe handle can be locked into two positions: the full stroke position for a sample volume of 100 ml or the half stroke position for a sample volume of 50 ml. Both positions are marked by means of an unambiguous red line thereby eliminating the chance of taking an incomplete pump stroke. The flow finish indicator in the handle ensures precise sampling volumes.

The pumps are the first and only gas sampling pumps to provide on-the-spot measurement of ambient temperature. Nextteq’s patented Thermal Ring is a paper-thin innovation encircling the base of Gastec Gas Sampling Pumps and accurately displaying ambient temperature. The Thermal Ring reduces the risk of error and increases safety by enabling users to correct for temperature variances on the spot.

Gastec Gas Sampling Pumps can only be used with Gastec Detector Tubes. Gastec products are designed, manufactured, and calibrated to work together to ensure accurate readings. To maintain the highest level of quality, Gastec products are manufactured in ISO-9001 certified facilities.

The GV-100 pump is also available with a One-Hand Adapter. Gastec’s One-Hand Adapter converts the Gastec Gas Sampling Pump from one-stroke piston action to one-button operation. One-button/one-hand operation makes it perfect for sampling in awkward places, such as a confined space while standing on a ladder.

ppbRae 3000 ppb PID VOC Detector from Rae Systems

Rae Systems’ ppbRae 3000 is a state of the art VOC gas detector for monitoring at the parts per billion (ppb) level. This device uses a new generation of photo ionization detector (PID) and features both temperature and humidity compensation for improved accuracy. It includes built in correction factors for over 200 compounds and is suitable for use in any hazardous environment. The ppbRae 3000 comes in a rugged housing that allows it to be IP65 certified while running and IP67 while off. It also features a large screen for ease of use and large buttons that allow it to easily be handled with gloves on. The new gen PIDs allow for detection of VOCs from1 ppb to 10,000 ppm whit a less than three second response time. Data can be transmitted from up to two miles away with the RaeLink3 wireless router for increased monitoring and fast incident response.
